Middlesex County College is one of the most veteran-friendly colleges in the nation! Our nationally recognized Veterans 帝豪棋牌 Center assists military veterans as they transition to civilian life. We make sure veterans receive all the education benefits and entitlements for which they are eligible, coordinate services they need to be successful, and create an environment where they can socialize with other military veterans.

The Veterans Study Lounge has both study and general seating areas to serve as a comfortable, multi-functional environment for military-affiliated students to study, relax, and spend time with one another. The Lounge is located in the College Center Room 104 and open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Getting Started at MCC

帝豪棋牌Dr. Michael Barany, Military and Veterans 帝豪棋牌 Coordinator

Michael served 4 and half years in the United States Army as a Cavalry Scout; which consisted of two combat deployments to Iraq, one 15 months long and the other being 12 months, earning the rank of Specialist. As a Cavalry Scout, Michael served in an 18-person reconnaissance team and Quick Reaction Force team applying intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance methodologies to counter-insurgency/extremism programs within assigned combat sectors. Included in his awards is the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, three Iraqi Campaign Medals, two Overseas Ribbons, Combat Action Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge-Tracked and Wheeled Vehicles, Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Armed Service Ribbon.

After exiting the Army in 2011, Michael attended Middlesex County College (MCC) earning an A.S. degree in Criminal Justice-Police Science. After graduating MCC, Michael attended New Jersey City University’s (NJCU) National Security Studies program on MCC earning a B.S. degree in National Security Studies in 2014 and proceeded to earn his M.S. degree in National Security Studies (Concentration in National and Corporate Security) from NJCU in 2016. Michael attended NJCU’s doctoral program focusing on Civil Security Leadership, Management, and Policy and earned his doctorate in 2019. Professionally, Michael lead a security team before, during, and after Super Bowl XLVIII; worked as a National Security Researcher/Legal Assistant for Immigration and Customs Enforcement; Lead Armed Guard for the Department of the Army; and worked on gender security and focused on bring women into police and military services in conflict zones as a Security Focal Point- Access Strategy in Fragile States with UN (United Nations) Women. Currently, Michael is an Adjunct Professor in NJCU’s Professional Security Studies Department and an Adjunct Professor for MCC’s 帝豪棋牌land Security program. Michael states “As a fellow veteran and MCC alumni, I understand what you are currently going through and I look forward to assisting you”.


VetSuccess On Campus Program

Our participation in VA’s VetSuccess on Campus Program began with a partnership between Rutgers, Middlesex County College, and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with the purpose of providing a supportive, on-campus resource to help you make a smooth transition to college life. Valerie Williams, MA, CVE, LRC, is a VA Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor who works directly with us at MCC. She provides vocational testing and career, academic, and readjustment counseling services along with peer-to-peer counseling and referral services. We are the only 2-year institution in the state with a VSOC counselor.

Seventeen members of the Middlesex County College Veterans and Service members Association and their friends and family joined over 100 other Operation Shoebox volunteers as they packed boxes of food and personal hygiene items for troops overseas. The event was held at the Walter Kavanaugh Veterans of Foreign Wars building on Saturday, Feb. 10. It was the 13th anniversary of the first Operation Shoebox program; since its first packing event in 2005, tens of thousands of volunteers have helped assemble and ship 136,000 care packages overseas.
